My Treasure Chest - Aarrearkkuni

Minulla on ollut tämä arkku kotonani kohta kolmen vuoden ajan. Aarrearkkuni. Siitä lähtien tämä on ollut minulla, kun arkun edellinen omistaja, minun mummini, jätti tämän maailman taakseen. 

Ensimmäinen merkitys arkulle tulee sen alkuperästä ja tunnearvosta. Toissijainen merkitys aarrearkulleni tulee sen sisällöstä. Minä olen nimittäin antanut sille uuden tarkoituksen. 

Alunperin tämä arkku on valmistettu kapioarkuksi. Liinavaatteet eli kapiot olivat ennen muinoin tyypillisiä myötäjäisiä. Morsiamen piti ommella itselleen kapioita, jotka laitetaan erityiseen kapioarkkuun, kuvan mukaiseen. Mummin mies nikkaroi ja maalasi tämän omakätisesti ja mummi teki arkun täyteen liinavaatteita, jotka kirjaili itse heidän nimikirjaimillaan. 

Minä ostan lakanani KodinYkkösestä. Kapioarkku muuttui omistuksessani aarrearkuksi ja sisällökseen se sai tietysti aarteita kuten arvata päätellä voi. Että minkälaisia aarteita? Leluja. Parhaita leluja. <3

I've had this chest home almost for three years. My treasure chest. I've had this ever since my dearest grams left this world behind.

The primary meaning is the origin of the chest and sentimental value. The secondary meaning comes from the contents of the chest. I am giving it a new purpose.

Originally the chest was made to be a hope chest. A hope chest was/is a chest used to collect items such as household linen by unmarried young women in anticipation of married life. Grams's husband made this chest himself and painted it also and grams then filled it with bed linen she made herself and the bed linen she embroidered with their initials.

I buy my bed linen from the home department. In my ownership the hope chest turned into a treasure chest. And I am filling it now with my treasures. What kind of treasures then? Toys. The best toys. <3

Tällä hetkellä kerään useampaakin lelusarjaa, suurin osa vanhoja lelusarjoja 90-luvulta. En todellakaan kerää "mitä vain" leluja, vaan olen hyvin tietoinen ja tarkka siitä, mitä kerään ja millaisessa kunnossa sen huolin. 

Ei ole mitenkään aivan tavatonta aikuiselle kerätä leluja, mutta toisaalta se ei ole vieläkään ehkä mikään yleisinkään harraste. Jo kun olin vielä lapsi, sain kuulla kiintymykseni ja kiinnostukseni tiettyihin leluihin olevan vain lapsellista ja outoa ja siihen kiinnitettiin huomiota hyvin negatiivisessa valossa. 

Jos lapsi ei saa tykätä leluista rauhassa, jos lapsi ei saa leikkiä ja olla mielikuvitukseltaan rikas aivan vapaasti, entä sitten aikuinen? Saako aikuista "lapsettaa" joskus? Saako aikuinen heittäytyä välillä halutessaan vähän lapsekkaaksikin luvan kanssa? 

Minun puolestani saa kyllä, mutta sitä en yhtään epäile, etteikö löytyisi ihmisiä, joiden mielestä olen kummallinen, mahdollisesti keskenkasvuinen ja lapsekas, sillä "lelut nyt kuitenkin on tarkoitettu lapsille!" 

Varmasti löytyy ihmisiä, jotka katsovat minua vinoon. Aikuinen ostaa ITSELLENSÄ lapsille tarkoitettuja leluja, aikuinen käyttää rahaa mokomaan, saisi hävetä. Ehkä elän menneessä, ehkä en osaa laskea irti. 

Heille sanon vain: miksi minun PITÄISI laskea irti ja luopua täysin? Minulla nyt sattuu olemaan tallessa yhteys myös omaan sisäiseen lapseeni, ja se on asia, jota varjelen ja pidän itse arvossa. Se yhteys on jotain, mitä en aio kadottaa vuosien mittaan ja jota varsinkaan en aio HÄVETÄ!

Henkilökohtaisesti koen sen enemmänkin rikkautena ja monipuolisuutena. Jos minua ei mikään muu elämässä VIELÄKÄÄN kiinnostaisi kuin lelut lelut lelut, jos se olisi AINUT asia, jolle omistaudun, sitten sanoisin, että minussa on jokin huolestuttavasti pielessä ja todellakin olen vähintäänkin erittäin keskenkasvuinen ja lapsekas. 

Minua kuitenkin kiinnostaa monetkin asiat elämässä ja minulla on kykyä myös omistautua monille asioille. En siis ole lapsi. Toki olin sitä joskus. Ja jos joku ei ole sitä koskaan ollut ja kokenut, edes lyhyen hetken ajan elämässään, minusta se on tavattomampaa ja huolestuttavampaa kuin tämä. Lelut ovat vain yksi omistautumisen ja intohimon kohde minulle muiden joukossa. 

Itse koen, että lapsekkaan innostuva ja väsymätön puoleni, on samalla myös parhaita puoliani. Ja kyllä. Tämä osa minusta jaksaa yhä innostua myös tietyistä leluista. :)

Vanhojen lelusarjojen kerääminen kysyy niin aikaa, malttia kuin rahaakin, sen olen saanut huomata. Suurin osa aarteistani on bongattu ebay:sta, jota vahdin kausittain lähes orjallisesti ollessani jotain vailla. Satunnaisesti lelulöytöjä voi tehdä myös kirpputoreilta ja huutonetistä.

Sarjat, joita kerään:

At the moment I am collecting more than just one toy serie. Most of them are old series from the 90's. I really don't collect "just any toys", in fact I am very precise of what I collect and that my toys are in a great condition. I usually prefer of getting my toys "mint-in-a-box" if it's possible and I could possibly afford that.

It is not completely uncommon for a grown-up to collect toys but I guess it is not most common thing to do either. Already when I was merely a child I got to experience that my affection and my interest in toys is just childish and embarrasing and weird and it drew a lot of attention in a very negative way.

If a child is not allowed to like toys and have a rich imagination, how about a grown-up then? Can a grown-up be allowed to indulge in childlike behavior every now and then?

Yes, why not if you ask me. But I have no doubt that there wouldn't always be people who think I'm just strange, possibly immature and childish, maybe even twisted somehow because "after all toys are ment for kids!"

Surely there will be people who think that oh my, a grown-up person buys childrens toys to HERSELF, a grown-up spending money for such things, she should be ashamed, what went wrong!

Maybe they think I live in past and I just can't let go.

To those thinking like that I only have to say this: WHY SHOULD I let go completely? I just happen to have still the connection to my inner child and that is something I myself happen to embrace and value and I absolutely REFUSE to be ASHAMED of it!

Personally I feel it is more of a sign of versality and a positive thing too. If nothing else in life was interesting to me than toys toys toys, if it was the ONLY thing that I was dedicated to today, THEN I would say there is something definitely wrong with me and at least I was very immature and childish person indeed.

However I do have many things in life that interest me and I also have the ability to dedicate myself to many things with great commitment. I am not a child. Of course there was a time when I WAS a child. And if someone hasn't ever really been that, even for a brief period, I think THAT is more concerning and unusual thing. For me toys are just one object of my interests and passions among the others.

I myself think that my somewhat childlike enthusiastic side is also one of my best sides. And yes. It is also that part of me that still gets excited about certain toys. :)

Collecting old toy series requires time, patience and money too, that I have noticed. Most of my treasures are found on ebay. Sometimes when I'm after something I keep checking it just slavishly and almost obsessively already. <:D Sometimes one might also get lucky and make a great discovery at a flea markets.

So the series I am collecting:

(Vintage) Littlest Pet Shop. Nämä lelut ovat vuosilta 1992-1996 ja Hasbron valmistamia. Aivan mielettömän hurmaavia eläinhahmoja, oman lapsuuteni ehdottomia ykkösiä! Kissat olivat ja ovat edelleen erityisessä suosiossani. :)  

En ole ajatellutkaan kerääväni kaikkia. Ainoastaan ne, jotka minuun vetoavat sarjasta eniten. ;) 

Tästä edes minäkin puhun sarjasta nimellä "vintage Littlest Pet Shop" (tai vintage LPS). 

Minusta tuntuu itsestäni vähän kummalliselta käyttää nimitystä 'vintage' jostain, joka ei ole sen kauempaa kuin ysäriltä, mutta mennään sillä, koska tämä nimitys on jo vakiintunut lähes "virallisiin" mittoihin kun tästä sarjasta puhutaan... Johtuu varmasti siitä, että markkinoilla on tänä päivänä paremmin tunnettu sarja nimeltä Littlest Pet Shop. Itse henkilökohtaisesti arvostan 90-luvun sarjaa enemmän ja koen sen vetoavampana, mutta kerään myös tätä uudempaa. :) Se ei vain ole ehkä AIVAN niin lähellä sydäntä. Kivoja nekin on. ;)

Mutta tosiaan, jos etsii tietoa tästä 90-luvun sarjasta tai etsii näitä vanhempia leluja, kannattaa lisätä se "vintage"-sana mukaan hakuun! 

Vintage Littlest Pet Shop hahmoilla on lähes aina (olivat ne sitten kissoja, koiria, hamstereita, hevosia, lintuja tai jääkarhuja) kaulassaan panta, jossa on Littlest Pet Shop -tassunjälki!

(Vintage) Littlest Pet Shop. These toys are from 1992-1996 and manifactured by Hasbro. Just incredibly charming little animal characters! Soooo PRETTY and sooo CUTE!! <3  These were the BEST ones when I was a child! The kitties used to be - and still are - special for me. Just my favourites... Nothing beats those... :)

I am not even thinking of collecting all of these. Only the ones that appeal to me the most. :)
I too am gonna call this serie for now on by the name "VINTAGE Littlest Pet Shop" (or vintage LPS).

Personally I find it little bit odd to use the word "vintage" when talking about something that is only from the 90's but I am gonna stick with that because it practically is the new "official" name already for this serie. It is probably because there is this new serie on the market that goes by name Littlest Pet Shop. Kinda confusing, huh? 
Not that surpricingly if you are talking about LPS today everyone thinks that you are talking about this relatively new serie. Most people don't even know that this other serie existed that now goes by name "vintage LPS".
I find the original serie better, it is closer to my heart but the new one is kinda cool too. ;)

But really, if you are looking for information about this 90's serie or if you are looking to purchase these, you should definitely add the word "vintage" to the search!

Vintage LPS characters almost always (whether they are cats, dogs, hamsters, horses, birds or polar bears) have this collar on them with the paw print on it!

Littlest Pet Shop. Tuttavallisemmin LPS. Hasbron. Tykkään enemmän alkuperäisestä sarjasta samalla nimellä, mutta kuinka minä nyt tätäkään voisin täysin vastustaa? :) Täytyyhän ne kivoimmat näistäkin kerätä talteen kunhan kerkeää. Onhan mulla näitäkin jo 87 kpl kertynyt... Moni kiva vielä puuttuu! Ajan kanssa...

Littlest Pet Shop. Friendlier LPS. Hasbro's. I like better the original serie that goes by the same name but how could I completely resist this one?  :) Of course I have to collect the coolest of these too when I have the time - money I mean. x) I have already 87 of these accrued over time... Still many many cool ones missing! In a time yes...

"Talo-hyllykkö", jonka tein alusta asti itse omin kätösin tässä joitakin vuosia sitten. :) Olen oikeastaan aika ylpeä siitä. Mutta siellä siis mun petsit majailee.

"A-house-shelves" that I by my own hands made couple years ago. :) I have to say I'm pretty proud of this one! Ihan muutama sana vain Magic diaper babies -sarjasta. Ne ovat vauvoja. Niillä on vaipat. Kun kastat vauvan kylmään veteen, vaippa vaihtaa väriä vaaleanpunaiseksi tai siniseksi riippuen siitä, onko vauva poika vai tyttö. Aika mahtavaa, mitä? :)  Kuitenkin oman kokemukseni mukaan vaipat saattavat menettää kykynsä vaihtaa väriä ajan kanssa. :( On ne silti vaan niin siistejä! <3

Magic diaper babiesit eivät todellakaan ole mun mitään ydinosaamisaluetta, pakko sanoa! Esim. en tee mitään eroa sen välille, onko mun vauvelit uudempaa vai vanhempaa "sukupolvea", onko ne näitä baby faceja vai ei. Mulle ne on yksinkertaisesti ihan vaan "magic diaper babies" ja piste. Pyydän tätä anteeksi, koska tiedän, että on ihmisiä, jotka tietää paremmin ja jotka on hyvin tarkkoja näistä.

Just few words of Magic diaper babies. They are babies. They have diapers. When you dip the baby into cold water the diaper changes its color into pink or blue depending on wheather the baby is a boy or a girl. Pretty neat, huh? :)  How ever in my own experience the diapers might loose their ability to change the color in time. :(  but I think they are still super cool! <3   They are from the 90's and produced by Galoob.

Magic diaper babies really aren't my core area of ​​expertise, I gotta say! For example I make no difference whether my magic diaper babies are older or newer generation, are they baby faces or not. For me they simply are all just "magic diaper babies". And I apologize 'cause I know there are people who know better and are really accurate with these.

Voi huokaus. 90-luvun (vintage) Kitty in my pocketit ja Puppy in my pocketit!! Mulla oli näitä pentuna tosi paljon ja olen niin vihainen itselleni, että annoin ne sitten jossain vaiheessa pois!! MIKSI!!!? Annan itselleni anteeksi vasta kun saan kerättyä joka ainoan niistä, joka mulla oli joskus!! 

Lisäksi näiden lelujen mukana tuli myös keräilykortteja. Jokaisella kissalla oli oma kortti, jossa arvioitiin sen rodulle ominaisia piirteitä kohdin "halattavuus", "leikkisyys", "söpöys" (hmm, kukahan on sitten oikea ihminen tämänkin arvioimaan?) ja "persoonallisuus". 

Tässä on näitä, jotka multa tällä hetkellä löytyy:

Oh SIGH! The (vintage) Kitty in my pockets and the Puppy in my pockets from the 90's!! I had lots of these when I was a child and I am SO MAD AT MYSELF for giving them AWAY at some point!! WHY!!!? I'll only forgive myself when I get every single last one of them collected back that I used to have!! 

With these toys came always trading cards too. Each kitty had it's own card where it's characteristic features of the breed were measured with "huggability", "playfulness", "cuteness" (I wonder who is the right person to rate that?) and "purr-sonality".

Näissä on siis sama juttu kuin Littlest Pet Shopeissa. Että tänä päivänä on toinen sarja kulkemassa tällä nimellä ja 90-luvun vanhasta lelusarjasta puhuttaessa lisätään eteen aina sana "vintage" tarkentamaan, mistä on puhe! Ihan vain että saataisiin sekaannusta. x)

Oh by the way! It is the same thing with these then it is with the LPS! Nowadays there is this other serie going by the exactly same name, Puppy in my pocket/Kitty in my pocket. So when talking about these 90's series we add the word "vintage" before the names to tell what serie we are refering to! Mulla on muutama näitä tästä sarjasta myös, joka tänä päivänä kulkee kulkee siis nyt nimellä Kitty in my pocket. En innostu näistä ihan kauheasti. Jotenkin kökösti tehtyjä, ei niin kovin kummoisia.

I have couple of these too from this serie that now goes by name Kitty in my pocket. I am not all that excited of these. Somehow they are just poorly made I think... Not THAT great anyway.

Poikkeuksena kuitenkin tuo keltainen kissa kuumavesipullon päällä nimeltä Tabitha.
Tabithaan olen tykästynyt siinä määrin paljon, että hän on töissä työpöytä-maskottini. :)
How ever with the exeption of that yellow kitty with hot water bottle, Tabitha.
I'm really fond of Tabitha, that much that she is my desk mascot at work. :)
She is always making me just sleepy though. xDDD

Huoh. Minulla on vain mitä levein hymy kasvoillani kun kaivan nämä lelut arkustaan ja alan ottaa kuvia... :)   Mutta pahoittelen nyt järkyttävää kuvanlaatua!! x(

Sigh. I just have the biggest smile on my face when I take my toys out of the chest and start to take the pictures... :)  But I do have to apoligize the poor picture quality!! x(
